Mike Press Shiraz routinely slays them dead

Mike Press 2015 Shiraz

Mike Press Shiraz routinely slays them dead in the value – and therefore quality – department.
This release is another good one, if not one of the estate’s best. It’s an honest red with some cool climates highlights. Indeed it almost tastes cabernet-esque, with blackcurrant driving through rich plum, and a sprinkling of herbs and tobacco-like notes as a counterbalance to the creaminess of oak. Acidity is a little jangly this year but then you get the sense that this wine is still coming together. Certainly at the price there’s no reason to hesitate.
