MIKE PRESS 2017 Sauvignon Blanc

It’s a little more strict than usual; more straight-laced. It’s gooseberried and herbal but there are flashes of florals and a drive of pure passionfruit; almost into apple. Racy and tart but perfumed and inviting. As with last year I suspect it’s been released a little too young, its feet still setting their stance. But I’d reckon you’re onto a pretty decent thing here, at a more than reasonable price.

MIKE PRESS 2016 Merlot

Few producers put a tick in the value box as often as Mike Press Wines.
Plenty of fruit, well-integrated oak, a good drag of (ripe) tannin and a juicy finish. This is merlot, open and accessible but sans compromise. You get flavour and softness but you also get structural integrity; there’s nothing gloopy about this. Apple juice acidity is the only distraction but it’s offset by tangy notes of strawberry and redcurrant; in any case, everything else here is in a good place.
